Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 1, 2026
The short version: this site collects very little. We don't run ads or any third-party analytics or tracking scripts; on news items we count anonymous per-item totals of views and reactions, with no identifiers. We don't have public accounts or email signups, and we don't sell or share your information.
Who we are
areonautica.com (the "Site") is run by Areonautica LLC, a Colorado limited liability company ("Areonautica," "we," "us").

Mail: Areonautica LLC, 1500 N Grant St #12273, Denver, CO 80203
What the Site collects
The Site is mostly static pages. There are no user accounts for the public, no advertising, and no third-party analytics or tracking scripts. Fonts and scripts are served from our own domain. We don't use any third-party analytics service, including Cloudflare Web Analytics, and the Site sets no analytics cookies. The only counting we do is our own: anonymous per-item totals of views and reactions on news items, described below.
A few features handle small amounts of data:
- Approximate location on the home page. The home page can show your approximate, city-level location in two places: as the "IP location" beam on the globe and in the IP location and Coord readout. Our server asks Cloudflare for the location it already derives from your connection (rounded to about 10 km) and sends it back only to your browser, where both use the same result. This location lookup doesn't read or return your IP address, we don't log or store the location, and no cookie is set. Each visitor sees only their own. If no location is available, the readout just says "Earth".
- Network panel on the home page. The home page can show your public IP address and the Cloudflare data center and network (ISP) that served you. Our server reads your IP address from your connection only to send it back to your browser in the same response. We don't log or store it, and no cookie is set. Your IP is hidden by default; if you choose to show it, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage. If you use a VPN, a private relay or a carrier network, you'll see that provider's address instead.
- Blog post likes and dislikes. Each post shows anonymous like and dislike totals. We store only those totals, nothing that identifies you. See Blog post votes below.
- News view counts and reactions. Each news item keeps anonymous totals of views and of "Useful" and "Want a deeper dive" picks. We store only those totals, nothing that identifies you. See News views and reactions below.
- Comments. The comment box on posts is not active. It doesn't send or store anything.
- Research Desk (private area). The password-protected
/desk/section is for authorized users only. Signing in sets one session cookie (see the table below). The paper-trade simulator in that area keeps its data only in your browser's local storage; it is never sent to us. When the simulator looks up a price, our server fetches it from Coinbase's public price feed, so your browser doesn't contact Coinbase directly.
Blog post votes
Blog posts have Like and Dislike buttons. Here is exactly what happens when you use them:
- What we store. For each post, we keep one record in Cloudflare Workers KV (a key-value store that is part of our Site on Cloudflare). The record's key is the post's slug, for example
votes:my-post, and its value is just two running totals: the number of likes and the number of dislikes ({"up": 12, "down": 3}). Voting adds or removes one from those totals. That's all we store. - What we don't collect. Our vote code doesn't read, use, or store your IP address (or a hashed version of it), cookies, your browser's user agent, or any other identifier, and it keeps no per-visitor records, logs, or rate-limit keys. Your vote request contains only the post, your new vote, and your previous vote. Cloudflare, as our host, still processes ordinary connection data to deliver the request (see Hosting).
- What stays in your browser. Your own vote is saved in your browser's local storage under the key
areonautica:vote:<post>, with the valueupordown. It keeps your choice highlighted and lets you change or undo your vote: your browser tells our server your previous vote so the right total is adjusted. Undoing a vote deletes that entry. It is never sent to us on its own and isn't a cookie. - Totals can't be traced to you. Because we store only the combined counts per post, there is no way for us, or anyone who sees the totals, to tell who voted or how any person voted.
News views and reactions
News items count how many times they're read and let you mark them "Useful" or "Want a deeper dive." Here is exactly what happens:
- What we store. For each news item, we keep running totals in a Cloudflare D1 database (a database that is part of our Site on Cloudflare): the number of views, the number of "Useful" picks, and the number of "Want a deeper dive" picks, stored under the item's slug. A view or a pick adds one to a total, and undoing a pick removes one. That's all we store: no per-visitor records, no timestamps of your visit, nothing identifying.
- When a view is counted. After a news item has been visible on your screen for about 5 seconds, your browser sends one request to our server, at most once per browser tab. The request contains only which item you're reading.
- User agent. When a view is reported, our code checks your browser's user agent (the string that names your browser) in memory so that known bots and crawlers aren't counted. It is read only to filter out bots, never stored or logged. The reaction buttons don't read it at all.
- What we don't collect. Our news counting code doesn't read, use, or store your IP address (or a hashed version of it), doesn't read or set cookies, and stores no identifier of any kind. Cloudflare, as our host, still processes ordinary connection data to deliver the request (see Hosting).
- What stays in your browser. To count a view only once per tab, your browser's session storage keeps
areonautica:news:viewed:<item>(value1); it disappears when you close the tab. Your own reactions are saved in local storage underareonautica:news:react:<item>(the labels you picked) so they stay highlighted and you can undo them. Neither is a cookie, and neither is sent to us; a reaction request contains only the item, the label, and whether you turned it on or off. - Totals can't be traced to you. Because we store only combined counts per item, there is no way for us, or anyone who sees the totals, to tell who read an item or who picked what. We use the totals only to decide which topics to cover next.
Hosting
The Site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host and network, Cloudflare processes technical data, such as IP addresses and request logs, to deliver the Site and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare handles that data under its own policy: Cloudflare Privacy Policy. Blog vote totals are stored in Cloudflare Workers KV, and news view and reaction totals are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database, both as part of our Site on Cloudflare (see Blog post votes and News views and reactions).
Cookies and local storage
The Site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. Here's everything it stores:
| Name | Type | Who gets it | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|---|
__Host-desk_session | Cookie (HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Strict) | Only authorized users who sign in to /desk/ | Keeps you signed in to the Research Desk | 7 days, or until you sign out |
areonautica: | Local storage | Visitors who like or dislike a post | Remembers your own vote (up or down) on that post so you can change or undo it | Until you undo the vote or clear site data |
areonautica: | Session storage | Visitors who read a news item for about 5 seconds | Marks that the view was already counted in this tab (value 1), so it's counted once | Until you close the tab |
areonautica: | Local storage | Visitors who react to a news item | Remembers which reactions you picked ("Useful", "Want a deeper dive") so you can undo them | Until you undo your picks or clear site data |
areonautica: | Local storage | Visitors who press "show" on the home-page IP row | Remembers that you chose to show your IP address (value 1); your IP itself is never stored | Until you press "hide" or clear site data |
areonautica. | Local storage | Research Desk users of the paper-trade simulator | Saves your simulated (not real) trades and balances | Until you reset the simulator or clear site data |
Local and session storage stay in your browser and aren't sent to us. You can clear it any time in your browser settings. Cloudflare may set its own security cookies when needed to protect the Site; see its policy above.
Access, deletion, and your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. Depending on where you live (for example, California or the European Union), the law may give you additional rights, such as data portability or the right to object. To make any request, email [email protected]. We'll respond within the time the law requires, and we won't treat you differently for asking. Note that vote totals and news view and reaction totals can't be linked to you, so there is no individual record for us to find; you can remove your own vote or reaction at any time by clicking your highlighted choice again. We don't sell personal information.
Children
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
We keep data collection to a minimum, serve the Site over HTTPS, and protect the private area with a secure, HttpOnly session cookie. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the effective date at the top. If we add features that collect more data, such as email signups, we'll update this policy before they go live.
